Faber Vineyard Liqueur Muscat:
A sweet treat
Muscat has been around since the Ancient Greeks and Romans and was already cherished for its ability to accumulate sugar. This one’s one sweet grape!
Muscat comes in many forms; more than a single wine grape, we’re talking about an entire family of around 200 grapes that share traits. Perhaps the most famous family member is the Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, the ‘tiny berry Muscat.’ Although this varietal is also known as Moscato Bianco in Italy and Moscatel de Grano Menudo in Spain, one of its greatest expressions is Australia’s sticky wine, where the grape is known as the unique Brown Muscat.
Wines made with Muscat can be bone dry or lusciously sweet: they can be made for early enjoyment or as age-worthy examples that withstand the test of time. Still, all Muscat wines have a sweet, luxurious nose. Muscat is one of the most aromatic grapes on the planet, making it popular.
Liqueur Muscat results from growing such noble grape in a warm-to-hot Mediterranean climate in The Swan Valley wine region, and it offers a wide range of flavours and aromas.
Faber Vineyard Liqueur Muscat is a 20 year labour of love. Faber Vineyard has kept each vintage separate in small old oak barrels until blending. Reviewing all the barrels once a year to make up a new blend in which half of it is bottled and half returned to oak for another year, making up the basis for the next blend, allowing Faber Vineyard to achieve consistency from year to year.
My tasting notes:
Expect the most luscious scents of dried fruit, caramel, toffee, butterscotch and sweet brown spices.
The palate is rich and bold and bursts with the unique taste of molasses and cassis liqueur. Think of liquid fruit cake; that’s just what you get! The best part of Faber Vineyard Liqueur Muscat is its impressive length — it lingers for minutes on the back palate; you just want to take another sip!
Pairing:
Although Liqueur Muscat is fantastic on its own and a wonderful after-dinner drink, the sweet wine is pretty versatile on the table as well.
Few wines in the world can tackle chocolate pairings. In fact, only a few wine styles are bold enough to tame unctuous chocolate treats. Well, Brown Muscat is perfect for that! From fudgy brownies to chocolate cake, Liqueur Muscat has your back.
Any dessert with cherries, strawberries or raspberries is also uniquely compatible with Liqueur Muscat, and is terrific with dried fruits and nuts as well. Let’s just say adding Liqueur Muscat to the menu is easy.
