Spanish Wine and Pintxos Flight in the Valley

Pandemonium Estate is located in The Swan Valley wine region. Established in 2008, this winery excels making off-the-beaten-path wines. Martin Buck and Loraine Donlevy purchased the estate because of their marvellous Pedro Ximenez and Grenache plantings, both Spanish wine lovers, decided to make their own little Spain between the warm Swan River and Darling Range. Their Tempranillo is now one of the best in the valley.

Pandemonium’s cellar door is worth a visit. You can taste all of their wines and get them for great prices. This is a place to relax and spend the whole afternoon. The best thing is that you can pair your wines with bite sized pintxos, whether it’s olives or cured meats, aged cheese or veggies, the experience is unbeatable. Go for the wine but stay for the ambiance.

I was invited today along with other wine lovers to taste the Spanish Flight: a selection of four Spanish-inspired wines paired with pintxos for AUD $20.

These were the wines paired with the Pintxos, an amazing combination of taste and flavours:

“The Rosier” is a lively rosé; easy to drink and thirst-quenching. It has an intense, fruity nose and a bright acidic tanginess. This wine is perfect for summer and rustic dining.

Their Shiraz-Grenache blend is ripe and flavourful. This is a big wine to pair with fatty meat. Black and red fruit aromas entwine with spicy notes in a complex bouquet that echoes in the mouth. This wine is confident and long.

Tempranillo “Limited Release” is a lovely red with a solid structure and intense oaky aromas. The mature, plush red fruit in nose and palate is stunning.
This is a medium-bodied wine that it’s unequivocally Australian, yet it has a curious, foreign feel.

Saving my favourite wine for last: A rare Savagnin, Chenin Blanc blend called “The Verrine.” Both French varieties have found a new home in the Swan Valley and seem rather happy. The wine is intensely aromatic; a citrusy acidity balances stone fruit aromas, white flowers, and ripe honeydew. The wine freshens the palate and opens the appetite. This white is classy, polished; pleasing in every way.
