Wine Tour in Athens

We signed up for a full day trip to Attica wine region – Athens with vins events. We had an amazing time on the Wine Tour with Vins oenotourism events from the reception when we arrived, right down to our last moment at the tour.
On our way to Attica wine region our tour guide, Spyros, gave us introduction to the Greek wine, viticulture history and guided us throughout the tour.
The tour was fascinating and interesting learning about greek wine.
We visited two boutique wineries and vineyards and were a wonderful way to experience the beautiful county of Athens we also did wine tasting at each winery, fascinated about the greek wines and styles. Learning about the diverse process and history at each, and of course enjoying the taste of quality wine made the day that much more pleasing.

First visit was to the Mylonas winery and vineyard, Mylonas Winery dates back to 1917 when used to make wine in Amphora made of clay. With the goal to always promote the Attica’s vineyard and the unique variety of Savatiano, now, they have a new modern boutique winery run by the third generation of the family since the beginning of this century. Vineyards in Lavreotiki, Attica land are mainly planted with Savatiano but also several others indigenous grapes and International grapes as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Next stop was to Domaine Papagiannakos. First generation of Papagiannakos started producing wine in 1919 . Nowadays, the new generation following the family tradition and adopting modern methods, redefines wines into the third millennium.  The vineyard is located in Attiki Vineyards, planted with Malagouzia, Savatiano, Assyrtiko, Graeco, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

We finished the tour with an increased appreciation of this unique part of Greece and the wonderful food and wine that we had for lunch (Meze) with the local in the seaside tavern ‘O Hpeirotis’
